New from Equal Rights Advocates: #StopKavanaugh: Our democracy — like our bodies — is not up for grabs

Despite our protests. Despite our outrage. Despite the fact that 90% of his record is still being hidden from the very committee charged with confirming his nomination — let alone the public. (And despite what was released — all 42,000 pages — becoming available only 15 hours before hearings began.)

Despite it all, Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings are moving forward.

We won’t just roll over and give up. We need to prove them wrong. We need to shout louder, protest more passionately, call our Senators more frequently. We can’t allow this absurd mockery of a judicial process to vet appointees to our country’s highest court.

We may know very little about Kavanaugh’s official record, but here’s what we do know:

• He’s publicly supported judges who want to overturn Roe v. Wade.

• He believes an employer’s religious beliefs supersede their employees’ access to birth control.

• He’s stated that a sitting president should not be the subject of criminal investigations – signaling to Trump that Kavanaugh wouldn’t be a check on the executive branch.

 

P.S. Remember this moment Nov. 6. It is important for all of us to participate in our civic process and protect our democracy. This SCOTUS confirmation process wouldn’t even be under threat if we were actually represented by legislators who took our democracy seriously.
